Drawing: Lark + Lily

lark and lily exterior silvia lilly 2016-July

Lark + Lily owner Silvia Lilly, from when we followed up with her this past summer about her experience owning the restaurant.

Drawing's closed! Winner's been emailed!

Lark + Lily in Albany is celebrating its one-year anniversary this week, and we have a couple of prizes from the restaurant and wine bar to give away. Maybe to you. Here are the prizes -- the winner gets to pick one of them:

+ Two tickets for Lark + Lily's yoga brunch this Sunday, October 23. The morning starts off with a yoga class at a nearby location at 11 am, and then heads over to the Lark + Lily on Lark Street for brunch. (It's $30 per person.)

+ Two tickets for Lark + Lily's wine academy class on Wednesday, October 26. This month's theme is "things we're afraid to put in our mouths" -- foods such as squid ink and escargot will be paired 10-12 wine samples. (It's $40 per person.) The class starts at 6:30 pm.

To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

What's your favorite Albany street? Why?

Lark + Lily is named, in part, after Lark Street. (It's at 200 Lark Street.) So we thought it'd be fun to hear about people's favorite streets in the city. Maybe it's a street you love because of the architecture, maybe it's a street you associate with a good memory, maybe it's a favorite for whatever reason.

We'll pick one winner at random. That person gets to pick one prize from the above two choices.

Important: All comments must be submitted by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 to be entered in the drawing. You must answer the question to be part of the drawing. (Normal commenting guidelines apply.) One entry per person, please. You must enter a valid email address (that you check regularly) with your comment. The winner will be notified via email by noon am on Wednesday and must respond by noon on Thursday, October 20.

Lancaster is a nice one. There's something about it: mainly friends who live there!

My favorite street is Garden Alley; it's just the neatest little street off of Dove between Madison and Hamilton.

I love Lark Street. I've lived on or around Lark for almost a decade now. I moved uptown briefly and it wasn't for me, so back to Lark and Center Square I went! I couldn't stay away. With the diverse array of local businesses, there's something for everyone here. There are always community events going on and it's close enough to downtown to walk. The architecture and cobblestone streets give it an old world charm amidst the hustle and bustle. It has a lot of charm.

My favorite street is Hamilton Street, because the contrast between the ESP and the older buildings that still remain is quintessentially Albany. And it usually looks especially amazing when lit up by the sunset.

South Manning Blvd - Some of my favorite homes in Albany line this street. Would love to live in quite a few of them.

Delaware Ave. It's often overlooked but there are a lot of great people and places down the whole stretch.

Sheridan Avenue. The Habitat for Humanity Project is a symbol of hope for the area. A comparison of the west end to the east end where the project starts is a huge difference-like a before and after photo.

Whitehall rd - because it is about half the length of Albany, and is level and walkable (great for walking/running).

Broadway, for sure! So many great places to eat and drink, interesting industrial architecture, and lots of new opportunities on the horizon.

I love Hall Place, in the Ten Broeck Triangle. It is home to these amazing New Orleans style townhomes, with a view of the amazing St. Joseph's church.

I absolutely love walking down Lancaster St. on a nice sunny day. It feels so serene and whimsical compared to the hustle and bustle going on around it.

Steuben St, I love that it is mostly cobblestone and vehicle-free. I hope more streets in Albany will become pedestrian-only and can cater to shops, restaurants, etc.

Madison facing the park

Hamilton Street is my current sweetheart. There are two homes just off of the corner of Hamilton and Lark that'll transport you right to New Orleans. The brightly painted double porches and latticed facades are so different for the area. If I lived there, I can't imagine I'd be able to do anything other than spend my days with a good book, jar of sweet tea, rocking the day away on the porch.

If those gems weren't enough, just a few homes down is a contender for my favorite home in Center Square, but this one will make you think you're in Boston. It's painted a lovely navy blue, with a deep red door, and crisp white on the window trim; flower boxes on the sills; and iron lanterns flanking the door. It is SO DARN CUTE.

Elm Street for the good friends and good memories there. Also, the most lovely, long stretch of row houses.

Another vote for Delaware. Delso has everything from bake for you, the cheese traveler, to emack and bolios for ice cream, the spectrum for movies, andy and sons for coldcuts, prinzo's for bread, and New world bistro bar.

My favorite street is State, from the top of the park to the ESP. I have always loved the beautiful old buildings, and after I recently went on a Historic Albany walking tour of the area, I have an even greater appreciation of the neighborhood.

New Scotland - The finest ales and cheap oysters at Beer Belly (ahem Albany Ale and Oyster), The Meatball and eggplant pizza at The Fountain, wood-fired pizza at Navonna, scallop sashimi at Sake Cafe, pizza fries and watching the game at Graney's, Gyros from Anton's, and that legendary burger at Gastropub

It is also where I love. No brainer.

delaware - fun restaurants and shops.

Main. Have always loved it and just recently bought a house here.

I really like Jay Street. It was the first street I lived on when I moved to Center Square and has a great vibe.

Berkshire Boulevard between Colonial and Euklid because it is Albany lakefront property!

I'm a fan of Willett - overlooks the park, close to downtown and lark.

Marion Ave. Love the homes on this street.

Another vote for Delaware. I love making an evening out of the restaurants and Spectrum!

North Pearl Street! Because of the architecture and the newer booming business side.

Lark Street, especially during Art on Lark!

Clinton Avenue

Hackett Boulevard - they have a nice long bike path on it

Lark Street. Love the shopping, culture and diversity there.

Dove St! I love all of the bird-named streets, and it was one of the first streets whose orientation and direction I remembered when I first moved here and was trying awkwardly to find my way around.

I love Washington Park Road. It's so nice to drive through Washington Park, especially when the Capitol Holiday Lights are going on.

Catherine Street because of all the history and architecture. Including the Schuler Mansion:)

Maiden Lane. One of, if not the oldest streets in Albany, it has a quaint and historical vibe with its narrowness and cobblestones. And it leads directly across the walking bridge to the riverfront.

Willett Street - beautiful view of the park

Madison Place! It has a great little triangular park directly across the street and now has two great restaurants/bars at the end on Phillip St. The street has a lot of history and the row houses still look great set behind the park and trees lining the sidewalk. Bonus points for being down the street from the cathedral and the state museum, as well as easy walking distance to downtown and Lark.

I love strolling down Marion Ave. Big, beautiful houses. Mimics South Manning but without the traffic.

I love Greenway, off South Manning.

State Street: It has beautiful houses, the Capitol, Empire State Plaza, Washington Park, and it crosses Lark Street! What more could you ask for when looking for the perfect street in Albany.

Jermain St. with its Lustron houses. Or any Albany streest with Mid-Century Modern houses.

Hamilton Street. I met my love of 4 years at a small garden party there on Cinco de Mayo

Hudson Avenue, ever since moving to Albany in 2011, I've lived in three apartments -- all on Hudson Avenue. Started from the 360+ and now reside in the 280~ address. I've been going down river on the Hudson....so to say.

Henry Johnson Blvd between Washington and Livingston for the win!

Lark street. I've either lived on Madison or Lark my whole time in Albany. I love living on Lark because I have access to nice bars and restaurants and when I'm walking around in so likely to run into my many friends who also live in center square.

Hamilton Street

South Manning for sure! Love the houses and trees there.

Manning boulevard, it has beautiful houses and it is a nice short cut when I drive to and from ualbany.

I love so many streets it is hard to chose. I'd say New Scotland because of the many wonderful places to eat...always new places popping up here and there! There's also a bunch of great neighborhood bars.

I also really enjoy Lark St. because it's so close to my home and they are many great spots to visit.

Willett Street facing Washington Park has some gorgeous houses

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
