Upstate Artists Guild campaign

There's a GoFundMe campaign in progress to help keep the Upstate Artists Guild on Lark Street. The campaign has a $8,500 goal, and after two days it's already at almost $1,500 (as of late Monday afternoon). UAG announced in September that it was planning to move from its longtime spot on Lark Street in Center Square because of a lack of funding.

Comments

The UAG has been an integral part of the Albany art scene for many years.

Sadly they have had numerous money issues over the past few years including the inability to pay rent at times.

Now, I understand it's an arts organization and important to the community, but I don't understand how asking for an $8,500 handout is going to solve their long term problems.

The GoFundme page doesn't state specifically what's going on, where the money will go and how it will sustain the gallery over the long term.

They need to have a solid plan and should share it with the public if we are going to be asked to donate our hard earned money to support their cause.

I hope they see this post and expand their explanation on the site so we all know what to expect and understand where our money is going.

Thank you.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
