Let the bats be
A reminder from the state Department of Environmental Conservation to be careful about disturbing hibernating bats due to the precarious state of bat populations around the state because of White Nose Syndrome, which was first identified here in the Capital Region. From a statement by DEC commissioner Basil Seggos: "Even a single, seemingly quiet visit can kill bats that would otherwise survive the winter. If you see hibernating bats, assume you are doing harm and leave immediately." [NYS DEC]
