Drawing: Nine Pin Pressing Party 2016

nine pin cider works exterior 2016-11-05

Nine Pin Cider Works has its annual Pressing Party this Saturday. The cidery will be releasing the 2015 batch of its "Cider Monster" variety, pressing more than 100 different varieties of apples for next year's Cider Monster, and there will be food, entertainment, and prizes.

We have a pair of "Cider Monster Special" tickets, which include admission to the party and a bottle of the 2015 Cider Monster variety. To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

What's your favorite type of apple? Why?

One of the fun things about this area is that orchards here don't just grow a lot of apples, they grow a lot of different varieties of apples -- many, many more than the lineup usually found in supermarkets. So this could be a favorite variety, or it could be a specific variety from a specific orchard, or something along those lines. We'll draw one winner at random.

Blurbage for the Nine Pin Pressing Party:

Nine Pin's PRESSING PARTY will include local vendors providing panini presses from Sweet Mama Mia, french pressed coffee, grilled cheese presses from Mad Cheezy, body presses through massages from Albany Massage, letter pressing Nine Pin coasters, T-Shirt pressing from Troy Cloth & Paper, an apple jug bench press competition sponsored by North Albany's CrossFit Beyond, aeropressed coffee from Stacks Espresso Bar, and more! Winner of the bench press competition (both men and women) will receive a Nine Pin gift basket and a 1 month free membership to Cross Fit Beyond.
Also, live music from The Sacandaga String Band and The Other Brothers with 102.7 WEQX - The REAL Alternative doing a LIVE broadcast from 12-2pm.

General admission tickets are $10 ahead / $15 at the door. Cider Monster Special tickets are $25. And designated-driver tickets are $5.

The party is Saturday, November 12 11 am-6 pm at the cider works on Broadway in Albany.

Important: All comments must be submitted by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 to be entered in the drawing. You must answer the question to be part of the drawing. (Normal commenting guidelines apply.) One entry per person, please. You must enter a valid email address (that you check regularly) with your comment. The winner will be notified via email by noon on Wednesday and must respond by noon on Thursday, November 10.

Granny Smith.

With a New York Cheddar, a crusty loaf of bread, and a nice white wine.

Perfect evening snack.

Honeycrisp, because they are the perfect size and it has the right amount of sweetness and tartness.

McIntosh, the apple I used to bake my first pie.

a good ol' classic Red Delicious

Gala...the best for a snack!

Chenango Strawberry- so juicy!

I've always been fond of Mutsu apples. Crisp (I hate a soft or mealy eating apple) and not too sweet.

Granny Smith because it is firm and tart and perfect for pies!

Snapdragons! Because the name is cool and they are delicious!

McIntosh apples have always been my favorite.

McIntosh. It's the most versatile apple, a multitasker for snacking, cooking, and baking. It has the right amounts of sweetness, tartness, and texture.

Granny Smith apples with Almond Butter because its the best snack to eat when you are on a diet!

Got to love Gala apples; similar to honeycrisp without the monster size or price.

Honey Crisp...they taste like a dessert!!!!!

Granny Smith - with smoked Gouda & a nice sharp mustard and a hunk of good bread - you have an amazing meal!

Gala. Crisp, juicy flavors. Perfect size.

Honey Crisp when I'm feeling fancy and Gala for everyday use.

I like a nice Jazz apple. It's not too sweet or bitter and makes a perfect lunchtime snack!

Have to go with Idared. Tart and firm which is perfect for eating.

Galas- I don't ever think I've had a bad one and they're just the perfect size.

Sheriff Apple. He shared his cheese fries with me at the County Fair during the demolition derby competitions.

McIntosh, because those are what my mom always uses when making her legendary apple pies!

Ginger Golds from this year! They were absolutely heavenly for snacking on and made an excellent Apple Chutney.

Knobbed Russett - because you can't find *that* in a supermarket.

Cortland! Crisp and not too sweet with flesh that doesn't brown.

This is just to say that I enjoy Granny Smith apples more than other varieties they are green and so delicious

Mcintosh. Awesome pies

Granny Smith--tart and crisp! And pairs well with a sharp cheddar.

This tough.. they're all great for different things, but Empires fresh from the co-op are extra tasty this fall!

Macouns! They are just the right amount of tart, and are great for apple crisp!

My favorite type of apple is the Gala apple due to the balance of tart and sweetness and the accessible size. Although, my favorite type of apple is the type that is in my lunch box!

Crispin (Mutsu) apples - Great crunch and great in all different baking

Granny Smiths! I love how crisp they are when you bite into them, and the tart-ness is my favorite!

McIntosh- the sort of tree that grew out behind the church. We'd seek out windfall apples- the ones on the tree were too high up for a child to readh

Empire, because it screams "New York" to me and it's great eaten raw or baked into a pie.

Gala...the best for pairing with some PB!

I like Galas because they are not too big or too small and they are the perfect amount of sweetness.

I just picked up Winesap apples at the Troy Farmers Market this weekend and they might be my new favorite. Sweet, but not too sweet, and nice and crisp!

Gala - because so good on their own but sweet baby jebus the juice you make from them! It's life changing.

JonaGold FTW!
