Drawing: Neil deGrasse Tyson at Proctors

Neil deGrasse Tyson

Drawing's closed! Winner's been emailed!

Astrophysicist/science communicator/pop culture figure Neil deGrasse Tyson will be at Proctors next Monday for a show. We have a pair of front-row tickets and we're givin them away. Maybe to you.

To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

What's your favorite Capital Region star?

Of course, we're referring to things earthly rather than celestial. It could be a person, place, thing, program, idea, whatever. We'll draw one winner at random and that person gets the pair of tickets, along with a signed poster.

The Neil deGrasse Tyson event at Proctors is a new show titled "The Cosmic Perspective." Blurbage: "There is no view of the world as emotionally potent as the one granted by a cosmic perspective. It's one that sees Earth as a planet in a vast empty universe. It profoundly influences what we think and feel about science, culture, politics, and life itself."

The show starts Monday, April 24 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $20 and up.

Important: All comments must be submitted by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 to be entered in the drawing. You must answer the question to be part of the drawing. (Normal commenting guidelines apply.) One entry per person, please. You must enter a valid email address (that you check regularly) with your comment. The winner will be notified via email by 9 am on Wednesday and must respond by 9 am Thursday.

My favorite Capital Region star is my wife. Corny BUT! -- but I wouldn't be here if it weren't for her. I moved to the area knowing no one, and met her. We fell in love instantly and one amazing elopement to Maine and a new house together later, I've made Albany my forever home.

The star of the Capital Region is definitely its architecture! You can take a stroll through history just by going up Western, Washington, or Madison and see the transition from the tight urban row houses along the park and then go to the close, but not touching, detached homes that came after 1900. The history abounds!

Seth Wheeler - for the patent that puts to rest any dispute of how to properly load a roll of toilet paper

Phantogram! Incredible music coming from just up the road in Greenwich.

Jerry Jennings, obvi.

The amazing Joe Donahue of WAMC. The man is a treasure!

Mary Darcy and Greg Dahlmann of course!

SUNY Albany! A "stellar" university in our own backyard (also the place I learned about astronomy and became Neil deGrasse Tyson's biggest fan...cough, cough)

Our ADK!

Eggy of Eggy's Place. The only location for a good hot ready-made egg sandwich for breakfast.

My daughter. She's reaching for the stars and despite some setbacks has not given up.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
