Silo

Possible inspiration for someone to do something with the Central Warehouse in Albany: A hulking concrete silo along a waterfront in Copenhagen that kind of reminds us of Albany's block of building has been turned into (stark, if beautiful) housing. [Archinect]

Wow, the original building is almost a dead ringer for the warehouse, and the end result looks like it would strangely complement the Plaza architecture just a few blocks away.

Would be interesting to know the details of the funding for that project, all I can find is that a firm called NRE Denmark commissioned it, but no information on how much of their funding is public vs. private. My feeling is that any similar project for the warehouse would have to have some level of public funding, else private industry would have taken care of it already. Seems like now would be the time for such a project, with the surge in other conversions and new construction supposedly driven by demand, as noted in a recent Morning Blend.

Or maybe we've just gotten so used to that building we're blind to it now? Outside of casual references like this nobody seems to be talking about it, even with all the effort to transform the warehouse district it abuts.

That’s a really cool idea, and nicely done, but I can’t help thinking that it would be more difficult due to the aging insulation in varying degrees of disrepair/rot...I would love to be wrong though!
