Drawing's closed! Winner's been emailed!

Takk House in Troy is hosting a Murder Mystery Night event July 28 with MopCo. It's a big, historic building. It's dinner. It's murder. And you get to be part of cracking the case.

We have a pair of tickets for the night, and we're giving them away. To enter to the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

What's something mysterious about the Capital Region?

It could be a place you've always wondered about. It could be a historical story about which no one seems to really know the answer. It could be you wondering about who keeps taking other people's lunches from the office refrigerator. We'll draw one winner at random.

Here's the blurbage for the Murder Mystery Night at Takk House:

Back when the Empire State Plaza was built, my grandfather lost his hardhat and it fell into the cement he was pouring. Other workers lost items too, some personal items. The mystery is what lies in the concrete at the base of the Empire State Plaza?

How many ghosts live in the Executive Mansion? What sort of unfinished state government business do they have?

Whenever I drive into the Warehouse District, things get eerily quiet. If I get out of my car, I can't see anyone else around, and I get the sense that Nipper is watching me... sometimes I feel like I can just barely see his tail wagging out of the corner of my eye. That's crazy, right? I always get an urge to pick up a tree branch and throw it... but there aren't any trees. When I feel the first playful bite on the back of my leg, that's when it's time to get back in the car and drive.

All the sewage that continues to be dumped into our rivers and lakes is a mystery to me.

I love the history of this area. I went on a ghost tour last year. We were told a story was about Elsie Van Rensselaer and the murder of her husband that took place at the mansion at Cherry Hill. Her lover was tried and hanged for the murder in Albany. Walking around that area at night definitely creeped me out. Gulp.

Why won't the Albany municipal government reveal the secrets about the dinosaurs living in Tivoli Park?

I think all of the old Revolutionary War cemeteries are mysterious. As a child, I used to ride my bike to one in Selkirk that spooked me!

It is very mysterious why downtown Troy wants to kill itself with aa horrible movie theater building.

I often wonder why Capital District drivers fail to acknowledge pedestrian crosswalks. A related mystery - why so many adults ride their bicycles on the sidewalk rather than on the road.

why anyone goes to the times union website is a mystery to me

The eternal mystery of time:
why the summer flies by and the winter lasts forever - also, why does a day off go so much faster than a work day?

Why are we never satisfied with the weather? I have grown up here and feel like a constant major topic of conversation is how the current weather sucks for XYZ reason.

Who shot Legs Diamond of course!

How people aren't in awe of all the wonderful architecture, nature and people in the area all of the time.

Breathing Lights made me super interested in the abandoned buildings in the area. I wonder about the buildings themselves as well as the former owners.

Something mysterious is when you feel like you know an area, you've walked most of the streets and know most of the shops/restaurants. Lo and behold, you discover a quaint little shop or café that you've never seen before but has apparently been open for years if not decades.

It's mysterious that we have so many yummy regional foods (i.e. melba sauce, mini hot dogs, etc.)

The mysterious 1908 death of Hazel Drew, a resident of Troy who was found in Teal Pond in Sand Lake and (very loosely) inspired the plot of Twin Peaks. Just last week was the 99th anniversary of the crime that is still unsolved.

The origin of the biker gangs at the Lark St/Madison Ave Dunkin Donuts! Who are they? Where do they come from??

The railroad tunnel buried in the center of the historic Stockade district in Schenectady is certainly a mystery.

The mystery of Capital vs. Capitol

the giant hole above the concourse

The mystery of the Ghost who roams the halls at the Capital!

When I was working at the old Education bldg I ran into people who I found out didn't exist there! No such names on the payroll. Angels? Spirits of times gone by? I'm interested! 🤔

Ankhefenmut, Albany's mummy.

the biggest and saddest mystery in the capital region is what happened to suzanne lyall?

How the ESP can be so ugly yet so iconic.

I think its a mystery that the Capital Region has so much waterfront space but they don't do anything with it. There should be more parks and restaurants along the river.

What's mysterious about the Capital Region is the distinct lack of steamed hams on our local menus.

Why are the highways where Salt was filmed so crazy?! Couldn't it have been simpler?

Turkman.

The murder at Cherry Hill has always been a little mysterious to me. Also, the Capitol fire

What's at the bottom of Washington Park lake?

What happened to affordable housing?

Whenever i see old photos of Frear's department store stair case the hair on the back of my head stands on end! Truly do think it is haunted.

Why are apartments around Washington Park so expensive?
Why can't I get the times union get vacation start and stop dates correct? I'm always coming back to papers laying in the driveway.
Why is there so little local interest in all of the great historical places to see and things to do in this area??
What am I supposed to fill in on the website line?

Why is that little turn off on the Arbor HIll I90 Exit that goes no where?
