Rivers and the arts

We're always interested in stories about how medium and small cities have found new vibrancy, so there were a few bits in this City Lab piece about Eau Claire, Wisconsin (population: 70,000) that caught our eye. Among those bits: How the city leaned into its setting along a riverfront, and how it used the arts to grab attention and draw people to it. (Though, as we often wonder about these sorts of stories/places, what are the jobs that end up sustaining the growth longterm?) [City Lab]

Ok that settles it. I make a motion :-) that we have a
Mandatory Eau Claire field trip for the 3 Mayors of albany, Schenectady and Troy....with side trips to Madison WI and Ann Arbor, MI--which do a great job with Town-Gown partnerships, bikeways, the arts/music scene and not "accepting" student slum neighborhoods. (and for Madison promoting their role as a state capital)

So much to learn from similarly situated rust belt cities!

Do I have a second? all those in favor?

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
