Massachusetts is kicking around the idea of switching to the Atlantic Time Zone (Maine, too). (It would essentially be like going on permanent daylight savings time.) Advocates cite economic and public health reasons -- and the fact it would mean no more 4:15 pm sunsets in winter. [NBC News]

The dark winter afternoons are horrible. Anything that banishes some darkness during the dead of winter is worth doing. It is heart breaking to leave work at 5 pm and it is already as dark as midnight.

It's so archaic. We're not living by candlelight and lanterns. Just stick with daylight saving time and be done with it. And, no that's not an omission - it really is saving - savings is errant.
