Capital Region holiday markets 2017

The unofficial official holiday shopping season starts up Friday.
If you're looking for something a little bit different -- craftier, handmade, more independent, fair trade -- there are a bunch of local holiday markets around the region.
And here's a big list of 'em for this year...
Basilica Farm + Flea
November 24-26 | Basilica Hudson
This is the fifth year for Basilica Farm + Flea, and it's very popular. "Born Thanksgiving Weekend 2013 as the Anti-Black Friday big sister goddess, Basilica Farm & Flea is part timeless flea and farmer's market and part 21st century craft and design fair, showcasing the wealth and splendor of the Hudson Valley's artisanal talents." Friday, November 24 noon-9 pm / Saturday, November 26 10 am-6 pm / Sunday, November 27 10 am-5 pm -- admission is $5 for the whole weekend / free for kids under 12
Black Friday Fair Trade Market
November 24-25 | Delmar Presbyterian Church
This is the 8th year for the Fair Trade Market. "Beautiful array of handcrafted gifts, fairly traded from around the world." Friday, November 24 and Saturday, November 25 10 am-3 pm
Holiday Open House at The Shirt Factory
November 24-26, December 9-10 | The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls
Artisan gifts, open artists studios, demonstrations. 10 am-5 pm each day
Handmade at The Hollow
November 25 | The Hollow in downtown Albany
"In its fourth year, this one-day indoor market featuring artisans, crafters and makers of unique and high quality goods is the perfect way to begin your holiday shopping in Downtown Albany with gifts for the body, mind, soul, and home." Saturday, November 25 10 am-3 pm
Saratoga Craft Marketplace
November 25 | Saratoga Springs City Center
The annual sale -- now in its 42nd year -- includes more than 100 artisans selling handmade crafts. Saturday, November 26 10 am-4:30 pm - admission is $5 and includes one raffle ticket ($3 after 3 pm) / kids under 12 are free
Albany Holiday Market
November 30 | Downtown Albany
This is the fifth year for the market, which is spread across multiple venues this year and is the same evening at the Albany tree lighting: Albany City Hall, the Arcade Building (488 Broadway), Fort Orange General Store (412 Broadway), Albany Visitors Center (Quackenbush Square), and the Albany Institute. Thursday, November 30 4-9 pm
The Round Lake Holiday Artisan Market
November 30 | Round Lake Village Hall
"The Round Lake Artisans Holiday Market is an intimate gathering of the talented artists and artisans of the Village of Round Lake who will be offering a variety of unique, locally handmade items, perfect for gift giving." Thursday, December 30 4-8 pm
Fort Orange Holiday Market
November 30 (Thursday), December 8, 15, 22 (Fridays) | Arcade Building (488 Broadway in Albany) and Fort Orange General Store
"The market will feature 20 vendors (rotating each week) selling locally made and sourced goods, live entertainment, art exhibits, restaurant promotions, and drop-in workshops at the Fort Orange General Store." 4-9 pm each night
Saratoga Fair Trade Market Expo
December 2 | Saratoga Springs City Center
From the same organizers at the as the Black Friday Fair Trade Market in Delmar. "The Fair Trade Market Expo is an easy way for the community to skip the crowded malls for a day and lend a hand up to artisans in the developing world, giving them the opportunity to earn a honorable living for themselves and support their families." Saturday, December 2 10 am-4 pm
Hamagrael Craft Fair
December 2 | Hamagrael Elementary School in Delmar
"The fair features jewelry, specialty foods, textiles, toys, paper products and more." Saturday, December 2 10 am-4 pm
Crafts & Christmas at the Albany Capital Center
December 2-3 | Albany Capital Center
"Shop from a selection of home accessories, designer fashions, artisan jewelry, gourmet specialty foods and one-of-a-kind handcrafted holiday décor, glass, wood, ceramics, photography, candles, soaps and much more. Over 130 Artisans Exhibitors on the second floor and 40 commercial vendors located on the first floor." Saturday, December 2 10 am-6 pm and Sunday, December 3 10 am-4 pm -- $6 / military and seniors $4 / kids 6-12 $3 / kids 5 and under free
Taste NY Holiday Market
December 3 | State Museum
This is the fourth year for the Taste NY Holiday Market. "Stroll through the halls of the museum while shopping and sampling 'made in New York' food and beverages from dozens of vendors, including hand-crafted beer, wine and spirits, cheese, chocolate, apple and maple products, and other edible goodies." (Also: The tree lighting on the ESP is that evening.) Sunday, December 3 11 am-4:30 pm -- free
Babes in Troyland

"There will be vintage and craft vendors, candles, jewelry, records, whiskey tasting from Albany Distilling, coffee from Lost Highway, food from the Ruck, entertainment from Will Kempe's players and more fun in store." Saturday, December 9 1-7 pm and Sunday, December 10 11 am-4 pm -- $5
St. Kateri Fair Trade Market
December 9 | St. Kateri (1801 Union Street, Schenectady)

Altamont Victorian Holiday Celebration & Winter Market
December 10 | multiple locations in Altamont
Multiple vendors at multiple locations in the village. Sunday, December 10 noon-5 pm
Center Square Mini Market
December 10 | Downtube + 3Fish Coffee in Albany
From the organizers of the Half Moon Market: "1 day / 12 vendors / super local, festive + fun." Sunday, December 10 10 am-5 pm
Shaker Christmas Craft Fair
ongoing through December 16 | Shaker Historic Site in Colonie

I'm a local artist in Albany and will be participating in a few holiday markets in the Capital Region. A couple other holiday markets that aren't listed, but you won't want to miss are: Albany Barn's Gifted on December 1st from 5-8pm. and Arlene's Artist Materials Maker's Market December 9th and 16th from 11-4pm. Support our local, amazing artists while finding unique holiday gifts.
