New owner for Madison Theater

Over at the Saint Rose Chronicle, Jackson Murphy reports that the next owner of the Madison Theater in Albany will be Cosmic Cinemas, a new theater chain whose CEO was previously involved with the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. (It's also opening a location in Hudson.) The chain is planning to offer dinner service during movies, and it has a no babies, talking, or mobile phones policy. [Saint Rose Chronicle] [Biz Review]

One of the best things about The Madison Theater was getting a ticket for a *classic* film for *only five dollars* & splurging on *really good popcorn*. I'm gonna miss that. A lot.

Happy to hear that the Madison's lights will come back on....sorta like the idea that it will be linked to Austin, Texas! but it's not that Cosmic is some upstart or homegrown indie (like the spectrum)....it has a ton of screens over 4 or 5 states. But, Cosmic, welcome to the Capital Region!

notice I didn't say Albany :-)

I'm excited to hear there's a new owner. I hope Cosmic reconsiders the user profile of this area so the under 17 teens can go to movies without an adult chaperone. And I hope the price point is not too high or exclusionary so we can go often! Good luck Cosmic.

With all respect to @JulieA one of the things I love about this concept is that kids (for the most part) *arent* allowed. The megaplex movie theaters at the malls are full of teens/kids and I avoid at all costs (yep-old geezer and proud of it)..the addition of beer and wine at this theater (also welcome, imo) and the walkability from my house make it highly likely that this adult (their targeted demographic, I suspect) will go quite often. Welcome to the neighborhood!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
