How to count
2020 is a Census year, and the Trump administration is moving to add a question about citizenship status to the decennial Census survey -- and that's getting a lot of pushback from states such as New York. The Rockefeller Institute has a quick overview about why it's a contentious issue. The super short version: Critics of the move say that the question could suppress the response rate from immigrants, which in turn could lower the count for states with a lot of immigrants (such as New York), which in turn could cost those states a seat in Congress and/or lower the amount of money they get from the federal government.
