The middle way
In light of conversation about Washington Ave, road diets, and related whatnot... Down the road (so to speak) in Syracuse (and its neighbor Dewitt), there's a plan to build a bikeway down the middle of Erie Boulevard, a busy arterial road (a local analog would be Wolf Road mashed up with Washington Ave Ext). And the new path will also been a connector for the Erie Canalway Trail System. [Streetsblog]

And just for comparison - traffic on Erie blvd is quite close to that of Washington ave. ext - 19k/day
And they are talking about shrinking the road to 2 lanes per direction - without adding traffic-generating development. Problem of most Albany roads is that there is no right of way available for anything meaningful.
