Drawing's closed!

The Hudson Valley Hops event will return to the Albany Institute May 19. And we have a pair of tickets to give away, maybe to you.

To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

If you could make any sort of Capital Region-inspired beer, what would it be and what would you call it?

Ale, IPA, lager, sour, root, whatever, maybe something that doesn't event exist. We'll draw one comment at random and that person will get the pair of tickets.

Hudson Valley Hops is Saturday, May 19 at the museum. There will be beer samples from a bunch of regional brewers, food from BMT Hospitality, a blind taste test of local session beers with a panel of judges, stories of Troy's brewing history, and brewing and distilling artifacts from the museum's collection.

Tickets are $35 ahead / $40 at the door.

Important: All comments must be submitted by noon on Friday, May 11, 2018 to be entered in the drawing. You must answer the question to be part of the drawing. (Normal commenting guidelines apply.) One entry per person, please. You must enter a valid email address (that you check regularly) with your comment. The winner will be notified via email by 5 pm on Friday and must respond by 5 pm that following Monday.

It would have to be a lager (store it in a cool Albany basement all winter, drink it on a warm fall day). I would have hints of apple, and maple and call it Tulip Top.

I'd make a sour called Bitter Winter. I'd feature local apples and hops for a unique blend of puckery goodness, and the label would feature a Cortland apple tree's branches reaching through a never-ending snowstorm. 'Cause it's Albany!

I would go with a Dutch inspired lager. Ideally it would be mild up front but w/ an aftertaste that sticks with you and draws you back - much like Albany! I would slap a painting of Fort Orange on the front.

My Capital Region-inspired beer would be Pressed Tulips. It would be a crisp summer ale but with light floral notes. Enjoyed best while grilling or relaxing on a patio somewhere.

Lake Albany Ale - sourced from glacial waters and good for what ails you

River Water IPA

How about a Hudson Hefeweizen, with a label featuring the river?

Mohawk Marzen for Octoberfest!

Well, if there can be a Nugget Nectar out there, why not a Nipper Nectar, the finest Albany-American Amber?

A gruit made with herbs from the Troy Farmers Market instead of hops, perhaps with some fruit from a local orchard tossed in for good measure!

Washington Wheat...maybe with a hint of apples from the newly planted apple trees in Washington Park.

Classic American Pale Ale "Hop over the Hudson"

I'd make it a New England style, juicy IPA and call it the Delmartian!

Saratoga Sour Stout, the beer to drink when you realized how much more you were charged durring track season than the rest of the year.

The Dutch Oven: A steamy, creamy ale brewed using Mohawk River water and Cascade hops grown atop Cascade Mt. in ADK. Will produce gas.

Knickerbocker Bock. Of course!

New York State CapitALE. A nice cozy beer to drink on cold winter night by the fire. Hints of apple and cinnamon.

Something that celebrates the Adirondacks with a hint of bacon!

Capital Cream Ale. A cream ale, of course.

Hudson River Overflow Stout

Corruption Stout. Joking! But not as much as I wish I was.

Empire Bock

Knickerbocker...bock

Brutalist Bock, with a picture of the NYS Museum on the label.

A Rexford Red Ale!

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
