"We're some of the last ones left doing this"
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Rolf's Pork Store in Albany, the roots of which stretch back more than a century. How it's largely not changed while the neighborhood around it and the food market industry have is the heart of a profile by Madison Iszler from this past weekend. There are also a bunch of bits about the day-to-day working of the fleischerei. [TU]
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

A meat market in a food desert that is struggling, waiting for customers to buy their Traditional german products. there's a solution to make this store more stable. How many people in West Hill (or Center Square or NY State generally!) "appreciate" five varieties of liverwurst or tongue bologna? no need to drop those products for the faithful few who can't find it elsewhere...Without diluting its brand, one would think they could adapt a portion of their offerings to the neighborhood and/or have their store windows filled with promotions of non-german products...
To be 1,000% clear, lots of love for Rolf's (I'm one of the customers who drive 10 miles to shop there). Increasing their customer base (especially walk ins) will be critical to the store being there in 5 or 10 years.
