Unsealed after a century
Divorce records are sealed in New York State for 100 years. And then they're open to the public. So Ken Crowe and Tim Blydenburgh of the Times Union looked into a bunch of records from Capital Region counties that are now open after a century or more. And what they found is fascinating both in how what happened then is both very different and very similar to today.
It also struck us as almost voyeuristic in a way. And it makes us think where these sorts of records should be open, even many years in the future.
