Empire State Plaza Capitol ducks on reflecting pool 2018-07-18

Ducky. Just ducky.

There are 11 adolescent wood ducks in Washington Park.

She was out at lunch with eight ducklings. Eight. She's going to be a very tired mama duck.

The poor mama was freaking out on Tuesday night! Somehow, one of them was separated, with 7 in the first small pool (where the art was removed) and one loner in the large pool.

The mother kept jumping/flying up to cross in between, but the ducklings couldn't follow her out that way. After trying (and failing) to lure the stranded one up ramps with bread, a few bystanders joined me and we waded in to corral the little peeper when mama wasn't looking, so she wouldn't attack us.

The woman that scooped it up quickly placed it in with the others, something mama apparently missed. She was on the sidewalk between, quacking incessantly. I walked over a bit later with my dog and found her still on the sidewalk, but by the time we left she figured it out and had rejoined them all in the first pool.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
