Albany history, off-Broadway
Paul Grondahl looks into the new off-Broadway play (The True) that's based on the story of Polly Noonan and Erastus Corning 2nd -- and the concerns people in Albany have about the fictionalized take on the two important Albany historical figures. [TU]

"...has caused consternation among some Albany Democratic loyalists..."
Too bad. How long do you have to protect reputations and sanitize history? All kinds of historical figures have been portrayed in fictionalized treatments (Hamilton, Nixon in China, etc.) It sounds like this play intends to portray complex personalities, not just one-dimensional saints. The old machine loyalists (they still exist in 2018?) must be deeply in denial if they want the profanity (hers) and sexual relationship omitted from the story.
Frankly, I can't wait for Cap Rep to do this locally! They would make a fortune.

My one disappointment is that this is not a musical. I want a singing, dancing Mayor Corning and Polly Noonan.
