Amanda Fries has an update about the ongoing planning for the gondola across the Hudson River from Rensselaer to Albany and some of the complications. Also: It's interesting to see one of the backers talking about induced demand -- that is, the idea that the existence of the gondola could help create demand for trips between the two downtowns. [TU]

I'm sorry. Is there a parking capacity issue in Albany that this needs to be solved? Never really noticed after 5PM on weekdays or any time on a weekend.
Using Rensselaer as an auxiliary parking lot for Albany seems extreme. Neither municipalities need it. Maybe if Rensselaer's waterfront had a casino/hotel on its waterfront to tie into the Albany convention center or the Knick, but there is none. So why put so much time and effort into a novelty?
