Schoharie County limo crash

Taking questions from the Albany Common Council Public Safety Committee on Tuesday, Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins defended the APD's investigation of the police shooting of 19-year-old Ellazar Williams, calling it "procedurally sound," but activist Dr. Alice Green expressed concern over questions raised by the video of the incident. The Saratoga Springs City School District board voted 5 to 4 on Tuesday night to end the practice of allowing 14 school grounds monitors to carry guns.[TU]

Wednesday: Rapper/poet/activist Mona Haydar and Olympic fencer/memoirist Ibtihaj Muhammad will be at UAlbany for a talk "Muslim Women in 21st Century America." "Mona is a Syrian American rapper, activist and artist whose debut song Hijabi (Wrap My Hijab) was named one of the 25 top feminist anthems of all time by Billboard. A fencing champion, Ibtihaj became the first female Muslim-American athlete to win an Olympic medal. They share the stage to tell their stories." It turns out the report of the bear attack was fabricated:
"After a thorough investigation and interviews with the subject, DEC Environmental Conservation Police Officers determined that the subject was not attacked by a bear," [a DEC spokesperson] said. Authorities quickly doubted his story, and Jordon admitted late Tuesday that he was not attacked by a bear, officials said. (The Post-Star)

So grateful Saratoga Springs voted to disarm school monitors. They can focus on communicating with kids and not imply that guns make these schools safer - they don’t.
