A group of researchers at RPI has been looking into how to analyze social media in order to forecast social behaviors. And it recently published a paper analyzing network structures inferred from Twitter posts in an attempt to predict (after the fact) where there would be protests following the last US presidential election. A backer and collaborator for this work: a research arm of the US military. [Motherboard] [via @DavidLublin]
