"I prize my privilege most because it is a privilege shared by all my sisters in this state."
Elections history fact of the day: The first women to legally* cast votes in New York State did so on January 5, 1918 in the town of Lisle, in Broome County (near Binghamton). And very first woman to do so was Florence B. Chauncey. She and many other women in the town temperance movement supporters, and voted against allowing alcohol in the town. (* Susan B. Anthony was found to have voted illegally in 1872 -- she was tried in Albany, and delivered a searing speech when she was found guilty.)
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
