Drawing: Historic Albany Foundation Holiday House Tour 2018

Historic Albany Foundation Holiday House Tour homes

Drawing's closed! Winner's been emailed!

The Historic Albany Foundation's popular annual Holiday House Tour is this Sunday. And we have a pair of tickets to give away -- maybe to you.

To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

What's something local that signals the arrival of the holidays for you?

It could be a tree lighting. It could be a holiday market. It could be eating latkes with friends and family. It could be whatever. We'll draw one winner at random.

This year's HAF Holiday House Tour includes 10 homes -- five each on Manning Boulevard and Thurlow Terrace. "The tour highlights some of the very best Albany architecture, seasonal decor, and ongoing preservation efforts."

There will also be a pop-up art show featuring the work of local artist David Hinchen.

The self-guided tour is Sunday, December 9 from noon-4 pm. Tickets are $25 and available online.

Important: All comments must be submitted by noon on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 to be entered in the drawing. You must answer the question to be part of the drawing. (Normal commenting guidelines apply.) One entry per person, please. You must enter a valid email address (that you check regularly) with your comment. The winner will be notified via email by 5 pm on Wednesday and must respond by noon on Thursday.

The first glimpse of the Capital Holiday Lights in Washington Park always makes me realize the holidays are coming up quick!

The early sunset, and Hanukkah dinner parties :-D

All the awesome Santa festivities! We're taking the kids to a Santa breakfast at the Outback on Wolf Rd. on 12/15!

The Delmar holiday parade.

Since my kids were little we've always gone to the tree lighting and fireworks at the plaza. It's always the start of the Christmas season for me.

When Santa and his reindeer on top of the towers near 787 get lit up for the season!

The Victorian Stroll in Troy on the First Sunday of December is what signals the beginning of the Christmas Season for me.

The Troy Victorian Stroll

For the past few years it has been the Troy Victorian Stroll! And the sight of the Holiday Lights in the Park.

The arrival of SNOW signals the holiday season for me!

Standing on my roof deck watching the fireworks during the plaza tree lighting

It's seeing the Lights in the Park start to go up....I always get excited about the start of the Holiday Season!

Holiday parties with friends!

Going to cut down our Christmas tree at Majestic Tree Farm in Selkirk (cutting down your own tree - one of the benefits of living in upstate NY...along with cider donuts of course.) Having grown up in Queens and having a fake tree throughout my childhood (ugh!), I can thoroughly appreciate the experience of walking around the orchard in the cold, choosing the right tree, cutting in down and dragging it back yourself. And the hot cider and homemade cookie you get in the shed where you pay is the icing on the cake. A great family tradition.

The ice skating rink at the ESP!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?

If winter ever gets its act together and drops more snow on us, there will be sidewalks to shovel. And shortly after that, Albany will... (more)
