Project:
Materials and promotion for Living Walls, a public art series
My name is Samson Contompasis and i am the owner and operator of The Marketplace Gallery.
I have hosted many major artistic events in Albany and NYC over the past 8 years.
This is a sister event to the original Living Walls in Atlanta GA. They had such a great success and such a great format the city of Albany gave us the go ahead for the project.
Living Walls:
Albany is a project designed to raise awareness about the use of public space. It is about exploring options that a smaller city like ours has in terms of bike commuting, sustainable energy options, urban gardening, rebuilding and/or reclaiming buildings as opposed to demolishing them. It will rework the interaction of abandoned and derelict properties to expand the use of public space. Through a series of lectures, performances, and the involvement of some of the world's great mural artists, the Living Walls project is intent on creating an open dialogue between the people and city.
I care about my city and want the people in it to have something beautiful to look forward too.
This entire project is privately funded, we are purchasing materials, flying artists in, etc all based upon private funding.
This Funding would help us really start the process of Living Walls. We could secure a traveling artist and purchase there materials. We would also be able to print postcards and promotional material to get the word out en masse.
