Project: Mugzy's Barkery, a line of home baked dog treats that are made from all natural and/or organic human grade ingredients.

Who: Jaime Kelley

Short bio
My name is Jaime and I am currently a social worker who also happens to have a passion for baking. I have baked from the time I was a little girl. I thank my grandmother for instilling confidence and curiosity in me to try new things and challenge myself in the kitchen.

A description of the proposed project

I am also a new puppy mother who has been scared by all of the negative reports about dog treats that are poisoning our beloved pets. I strive to feed myself and my dog high quality foods. This led me to develop a line of home baked dog treats that are made from all natural and/or organic human grade ingredients. The treats include assorted biscuits, peanut butter cookie cups, "pupcakes", and birthday cakes. I feel good knowing I am giving my puppy safe and healthy foods that I made with love. I would be thrilled to be able to share my treats with other dog parents. I think that there would be many people interested in purchasing treats for their pets that were homemade and that they could actually eat themselves! I would love to be able to sell my product at the local farmers markets and maybe small pet stores. The name of my company is going to be "Mugzy's Barkery", named after my adorable Olde English Bulldog puppy.

How would the grant money help?

Upon researching how to start a dog treat business I realized it would take a lot of time, planning and most importantly money to get all of the appropriate licenses and permits in place. When I discovered that I would have to pay for so many additional things I became discouraged because I really don't have the extra money right now to invest in the startup of this business. When I learned of this competition in the Small Business Class I was taking through the Community Loan Fund I thought that this is my chance!

If I were to win the $1500 it would mean so much to me! That would be enough to cover all of the licenses, permits, lab analysis, and market fees. This money could go so far for me and this business I feel so passionate about.

I hope that you consider nominating me and that you enjoy the picture of Mugzy and I as well as the PB Cookie Cups with Carob. He is my inspiration. I would love for his legacy to be this business. He has changed my life in so many wonderful ways. Winning this competition would be the icing on the "pupcake".

Thank you for your time.
