Ask AOA: internet service providers

cable modem

We got an email from Meg this week with a question:

I'm moving to Albany next week from [way out West], and have been reading your blog since March to learn about my new city. I thought you guys would know of other internet providers in the area besides Time Warner/ATT/Verizon. Any suggestions??

We were kind of stumped, but we thought you might have some ideas. Does anyone know of any options for Meg? Good/bad experiences?

Comments

Verizon Fios is the best value you can get in the area. Other than that, your next best bet is Timewarner RR.

A careless neighbor.

@JB: FiOS sounds great, but the availability is sort of limited right now.

I use RoadRunner. I would recommend going to http://www.dslreports.com/reviews and entering your zip code to get some reviews of local ISPs.

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

I hate these sort of lifestyle segmentation clusters. They don't really mean anything! They are making the assumption that you and your neighbors are the same, which is sort of a major built in error if you live in an urban environment. My 2 cents as a North Central Troy resident. I do love "rock concerts" though!
