Stuff to do this weekend

Sgt Dunbar still

Sgt Dunbar and the Hobo Banned earlier this summer at the Grand Street Arts.

Have you made plans for the weekend yet? So what are you waiting for? There's a ton of stuff to do in and around the Capital Region this weekend. Here are a few of our picks:

First Friday Albany
Remember back in February when you said you'd like to check out 1st Friday in Albany, but it's just too damn cold? Yeah, that was sad. But guess what? It's 1st Friday in August. Yay!

Free movies -- lots of 'em
Twenty-eight movies from around the United States, England and Canada will be screened this weekend at The Ballston Spa Film Festival. It's quieter than Cannes and you won't have to worry about being recognized.

People watching
This is the best time of year to take a stroll through Saratoga and watch the world go by.
The shops and cafes are open late, there's music on the streets and people from all over the place out having a good time. "But where will I park?" No guarantees, but you might want to try the super-secret parking garage.

Sgt Dunbar & pancakes? Yes!
Some of our favorite bands will be downstairs at Valentine's on Saturday night at the Rock-a-pancake-thon. Sgt Dunbar and the Hobo Banned, Scientific Maps and Matthew Loiacano will be joined by Kitty Little, Beware! The Other Head of Science and Swaggerin' Growlers. And there will be pancakes. Really. $7 for the show and all the pancakes you can eat. Yum.

Jazz in the park
If you like jazz, this may be a chance to say, "I heard her when..." Twenty-three year old acoustic bassist/vocalist/composer Esperanza Spalding can play. You can catch her with her band Sunday night at 7 in Schenectady Central Park. Free.

Why a slider slides and a curve-ball curves
The Tri-City Valley Cats will be at the Schenectady Museum on Saturday morning at 11 to teach kids the science behind America's favorite pass time. Free with museum admission.

there's free theater in washington park and in altamont this weekend.

It's like every time I come on here, you're telling me to do something or go somewhere. Well, I'm not going anywhere until I see your badge. I know my rights.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
