Stuff to do this weekend
Hey, look what snuck up on us while we weren't looking. It's the weekend! Made any plans yet? Maybe we can help.
Tugboats!
The 10th annual Tugboat Roundup kicks off at 2 o'clock today with a tugboat parade from the Port of Albany to Waterford. The tugs will anchor in Waterford for a weekend long festival with music, food, boat tours, fireworks and all kinds of family friendly activities. Free!
1st Friday, 2nd Anniversary
Albany's 1st Friday turns two tonight. And along with the usual celebrations, Trinity Church on Lark Street will host a gala ($20) with music, food, a silent auction and performances.
Golf -- after dark
The folks at Hiawatha Trails Golf Course in Guilderland are open late tonight. Really late. They've lined the greens with glow sticks, brought out the glow in the dark balls and they're ready for night golfing. $20 gets you 18 holes and an LED golf ball. 8PM-midnight
Make the wurst of it
Troy's Germania Hall hosts an "All German Car Show and Wurst Fest" (we can only hope there will be currywurst) from 11-5 Saturday. Rain or Shine in the Germania Hall parking lot at 107th St. and 3rd Ave.
Post-season Saratoga
If you've been avoiding Saratoga because of the racing season crowds, you can come back now. Spa City galleries and shops will be open late Saturday for First Saturday Arts Night with receptions, performances and other fun stuff.
Swing, swing, swing
Put on your dancing shoes. The folks who bring you Dance Flurry are running a weekend long swing fest in Albany. The Albany Chill Swing Dance Weekend takes place at venues throughout the city. Their website has the full schedule
Giant outdoor sculpture
It looks like Sunday might be a nice day for a drive. If you need a destination, you could check out the Fields Sculpture Park at Omi International Arts Center in Ghent. It's 100 acres of large scale sculpture by international artists -- and some of it is pretty wild. Looks cool, but bring your bug spray. (Thanks Sebastien!)
House tour
About a dozen historic homes in Albany's Mansion Neighborhood will be open for tours this Sunday. There will also be a presentation of rare maps and photographs by city historian Anthony Opalka, and a demonstration on creating urban gardens. Tickets are $20, $17 ahead of time. Tours start in Bleecker Park at noon.

Also don't forget about the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival! There are some really fantastic local and national acts performing, and it's a rare opportunity to see a ton of great music for free. Even if the hurricanes make their way up here, don't count it out--its rain location is the Palace.

And don't forget.. my lawn needs to be mowed this weekend and I don't feel like doing it. If someone wants to mow it for free and leave, I think I'd be ok with that. Just throwing it out.
