Stuff to do this weekend

EVOC.jpgOK, enough work. Time to plan a little autumnal fun. Looks like the weather will cooperate with your plans. In other words, don't waste the weekend switching out your winter wardrobe or doing laundry. Do something fun! What? Here's what we found this week. Got some other ideas? Do tell...

WWVD
What would Verdi do with electric guitars, samplers and drums? East Village Opera is a rock bank that performs classics from Puccini, Bizet, Verdi and others. You can hear them tonight at Proctor's. Tickets run $20-$35

Art Night
Schenectady's shops and galleries are open late for Art Night tonight with music and special events. If we were going, we'd have some chocolate pizza while we were there. We're just sayin'...

More EMPAC
More free events at EMPAC this weekend, including a concert by robotic instruments. Check the website for a list of the other events and be sure to make a reservation. It's worth a trip to see the place.

Fall Festival
This one looks pretty family friendly. Thacher Park's Fall Festival goes from 10 AM-4 PM on Saturday. There'll be wildlife programs, hayrides, music, crafts and food. It's $5 a carload, so squeeze in and buckle up.

Drag Queens!
Perhaps a bit less family friendly, but fun and for a good cause. Head over to The Fuze Box to see who gets crowned Miss Tuck & Tape. Some fierce drag queens will be trying to outdo each other in swimsuit, speech and talent competitions. The $10 admission benefits City of Hope, an AIDS and cancer research center. Saturday night at 6PM. Stick around after for 80's night.

Medieval Faire
If you're craving a big old turkey leg and some mead, this one may be for you. Medieval costumes, food, beverages, music and other entertainment at the Episcopal Cathedral of All Saints on South Swan St. Saturday from 10 to 5. $8 adults, $6 seniors, $5 children, free for kids younger than 3.

Polish Harvest Festival
One word, galumpkies. There's also music, crafts and who can resist a good polka. Sunday from Noon to 7 at the Polish Community Center, 225 Washington Ave. Ext.

The Figgs
The Saratoga Springs band The Figgs are back in town and doing two nights at Valentine's. Fri & Saturday at 9PM.

Boo
Freak yourself out with a ghost tour of Saratoga Springs or a trip on the Haunted Hayride at the Altamont Fairgrounds.

Point, click, shoot
The leaves are at or near peak in most of our area. It's a good weekend for amateur photographers to get out and capture autumn in new york.

Donut! Donut! Donut!
Enjoy a moment of autumn zen (or two) with a fresh, warm, apple cider donut. Mmmmmm, donuts.

I've had enough of AOA's blatant campaign against corn mazes. You've shut corn mazes out of your weekend activities listings for far too long, and it's time someone blew the lid off this whole mess.

Corn mazes are the quintessential autumn activity, and Liberty Ridge Farms in Stillwater (www.libertyridgefarmmaze.com) is the biggest and best around. Plus, they have terrifying animatronic hillbilly bands that are straight out of "Deliverance" (except robotic).

I highly urge the staff of AOA to take a drive up and see for yourselves (plus, they allow dogs, so even Otto can go!).

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is this Sunday in Washington Park. It should be a wonderful day and it is a great cause. If you click on my link, you can donate to my team. Our team leader is celebrating 5 years of being in remission!
It should be a great day for a walk and there is always a great crowd.

You're being accused of corn maze bias? Congratulations, guys: I think this means you've arrived!

i just got home from my favorite corn maze - the haunted corn maze!!! it's my third year going to this event and it's really great. tomorrow night is the final night. 7:30-9:30 pm

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
