I recommend "Synecdoche, New York," but be warned that it's one of those movies where just when you think you have it figured out, the filmmakers throw another twist in to make you scratch your head and wonder again. See it a few times, and then check out the forums on IMDB to participate in the lively debate. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who in the past has done Summer theater in nearby Williamstown, is excellent in his role of playing a small town amateur theater director in Schenectady who gets a shot at mounting a more ambitious production in the Big City. I can say no more, except that synecdoche rhymes with Schenectady, if you were wondering how to pronounce it.
