Stuff to do this weekend

Asparagus_soup.jpg

Yeah, it's going to be a good weekend for soup.

The Capital Region is in full-on hibernation mode (or maybe it's just us). We didn't see a lot
that excited us on this weekend's menu of stuff to do, but here's what did interest us.

Got some suggestions? We'd love to hear them. Really. Please.

Art Room Anniversary
Celebrate the first anniversary of the Albany Art Room. Tonight from 7 to 10 the Art Room is having an anniversary party. Live music, a silent auction and a free raffle. Oh, and all kinds of fun art stuff to play with.

Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris
Well, actually, he's not. He died a long time ago. But his music is still around--and it's good stuff. Brel was a Belgian singer/songwriter in the 1950's and 60's who really knew people. His songs have been covered by everyone from Sinatra to David Bowie. You're sure to recognize yourself and people you know in this review of his music at Schenectady Light Opera Company. You can catch it tonight and Sat at 8 PM, Sun at 2 . $27, $12 children. (877) 350-7378.

See a movie
It's freezing out there. But the movie theater is warm. And it smells like popcorn. And there's a ton of good stuff to see right now. No, you STILL can't see Synecdoche in Schenectady, but you can see it at The Spectrum. And if it's cold enough, you might want to think about a double feature.

Release your inner comedian
Or just watch someone elses. Tess Lark Tavern is trying something new on Sunday. An open mic for comedians starts at 8.

Slurp some soup
Take the chill off with asparagus soup (or any soup really) at The Wine Bar and Bistro on Lark Street.

Brunch with a Bloody Mary
Relax over brunch with the yummiest Bloody Mary we've ever tasted. While you're there, try the raspberry oatmeal pancakes. You won't be sorry.

Comments

Slim pickings this weekend plus a dodgy weather forecast mean that I'll be renting as many of this year's Oscar nominated movies as possible, then holing up and having a couch film fest. I can think of nothing better for a lousy January weekend.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

What's All Over Albany?

All Over Albany is for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. In other words, it's for you. It's kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who can help you find out what's up. Oh, and our friends call us AOA.
