Traffic on Route 7 at Exit 6

Avoid

What the state DOT is calling a "major road work event" began this week on Route 7 near Exit 6 on the Northway. The project has temporarily re-routed Route 7 west of the Northway.

If last night's traffic is any indication, the situation will be a mess all week. The westbound traffic was backed up into the box for the intersection for the off-ramp from I-87N. And people were being less than conscientious about clearing the intersection. There was honking.

You might want to avoid that stretch if you can. Route 155/Albany-Shaker (Exit 4) will take you around the south side of the airport and drop you off beyond the construction on Route 7.

Washington Ave E/W was also busy, related or not.

I would avoid Albany at all costs, construction or not, but thanks for the update on the Rt. 7 situation.

I love your timing, AOA! I got stuck in this mess last night, and it was chaotic.

Getting from the Target shopping plaza back to Route 7 was very tough to do because the far left-hand lanes (the one I normally take to make it easier to get back on the Northway) weren't clearly marked as closed. I didn't realize my mistake until I was almost up to the cones blocking the lane completely. If a kind driver hadn't let me in to the lane on my right after I realized my mistake, I would have been stuck there for a very long time.

I'm so glad that I work and live in downtown Albany and practically never have to make my way through the poorly planned mess that is everything between Northern Blvd and downtown Saratoga Springs.

Say Something!

Thanks for being patient.

Having a child is indeed a second shot or at least a reminder of the magic of childhood. I thought of this yesterday and my 4 year old and myself rode figure 8's and generally raced all around the now empty parking lots of Sage, Albany College of Pharmacy and OPWDD on our BMX bikes. So many childhood 'far away' journeys are actually so close.
