"Glow" Tonight at EMPAC

And we're off!

The mad dash to the holidays has begun. Between shopping, wrapping, cooking, eating, and entertaining others, make sure to have a little fun.

Here's this weekend's list of stuff that looks like fun to us.

As always, let us know what we missed. And have a great weekend.

Chunky Move:Glow
We're hearing great things about this film being screened performance piece at EMPAC this weekend. "Glow transforms a solo dancer into a mutant figure ... As she slides and thrashes across a white floor, her form generates a constantly shifting digital habitat of projected light. The Age praised the dancing as "flailing, joint-crunching action." Sounds worth checking out.

Comments

I saw "Glow" last night at EMPAC. It was fantastic, the best performance I've seen at RPI this year (and I've seen a couple gimmicky ones believe me; looking at you, "Spectropia"). More images at Google. Typo: Chunky *Move*; this is not a movie, this is a dance performance with real-time media, I quote: "Her smallest gestures are captured by an overhead tracking system, while interactive video technology creates motion graphics that shift in real time in response to her movement.". Don't let that scare you, it's creative, fascinating, immersive, beautiful and violent at times.

The show is about 30 min. long, 7PM and 9 PM tonight, Q.A. with the creators after the 7PM show. $15. Disclaimer: I won 2 tix online, so I technically didn't pay, but I think it's well worth it.

A larger show by the same people, "Mortal Engine", is on display in Brooklyn, December 9 to 12. Road trip?

Lounge @ Quintessence this Saturday night. Guest DJ Cminor.

"When it comes to eclectic selections of soul, funk, dub, roots reggae, and dance music, with mad skill to cut it up and bring it all together, DJ Cminor is basically the equivalent of that guy who guides you through the treacherous maze of waterways and indigenous tribes that lie deep in the Brazilian rain forest. It's a harrowing journey, and one you'll not soon forget. The rhythms are gonna get heavy and it'll be funky. People are going to get happy...and you'll be one of them!"

Hi, don't forget about the Siena game saturday night
at the knick-peps-nion center. ;-)

Tix for the Sippy Cups' rockin' kids show at The Egg at 3pm Sunday are no longer $12. The show is free. Tickets (free ones) are available at The Egg box office beginning at 2pm Sunday.

If you know someone who is a member of the Rensselaer community (student or employee), you could see if they have an extra ticket to the Aretha Franklin concert at EMPAC tonight, or the Joshua Bell concert tomorrow. Happy hunting.

Since the State Museum site is down for details on the Chocolate Expo check out Steve Barnes blog entry on it: http://blog.timesunion.com/tablehopping/11419/state-museum-hosting-chocolate-expo/

if you're looking for something a little smaller than troy's victorian stroll, altamont is hosting it's Annual Victorian Holiday on sunday (today) from 12-4pm.

"Seven of our beautiful old homes will be open for house tours. There will be a trolly to take people from one house to the other. Local businesses and churches will be open to tour. Santa will arrive by train and there will be caroling in the park. It's $10.00 per person - you get tickets at the Masonic Hall on Maple Ave. - which also has a local
tree decorating contest and wreaths being raffled off, as
well as refreshments."

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
