Miss New York will have to settle for being beautiful, nerdy and kind of awesome

claire buffie miss new york 2010Miss New York Claire Buffie did not become Miss America this past weekend -- but she did make the top 12 thanks to a win in the "America's Choice" competition, an online vote by the public.

Buffie gained a bit of attention last year when she picked same-sex equality as her platform -- apparently she was the first Miss America contestant to ever do that.

Miss New York also seems to be a bit of a nerd -- she has a photography and design business, and she used to work at the "genius bar" at one of the Apple stores in NYC.
