Ultimately, it didn't last long

Ultimate Electronics -- the chain that opened a store at Crossgates Commons just last year in the old Circuit City space -- has asked for permission from US Bankruptcy Court to sell off its inventory and close all its stores. (Thanks, Laura) [Syracuse Post-Standard]

Liquidation already started, or will start tomorrow (Friday). In most cases you won't be getting a deal at first, because the liquidators will mark up the prices to, or above, MSRP, then give a percentage off the mark-up.

Research prices before you go., especially since you won't be able to return your items.

I did like the store while it lasted.

I'm not shocked. They weren't that competitive.

These big-box stores just come and go. They overexpand and zap, the party is over. You're better off buying from a locally-owned retailer!

Any idea when sales are going to happen?

@Chad: Whether it's the official closing sale or not, there was a sign up yesterday that the entire store was on sale, at up to 30 percent off (there are probably all sorts of exceptions).

Bought my camera there... when I asked what happens to my service contract if they go out of business they mocked me... Guess I should have taken my business elsewhere.

I take it back. Just called them and they gave me the number for the company that will be taking over their repair services and my codes/account numbers everything I would need. Very helpful and friendly (despite being told they are about to be out of a job because their store is closing).

Color me shocked.

The one time I went most of the floor staff was playing pool and air hockey.

Well I know where I'm finally getting a Blu-Ray player...

I appreciated the excellent service that I received from John who was my salesman at Ultimate. I purchased several TVs, BlueRay player, Camera, Printer, laptop Computer, Headphones, etc. He was very knowledgable and went above and beyond to make sure that we were well taken care of. I switched all my purchases from BestBuy to Ultimate because of the excellent service that I received from him. Oh well. Sorry to see the store go. It was good while it lasted.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
