It's the first full weekend of spring and whatever you're planning to do, there should be lots of (chilly) sunshine to do it in.

TNO
Tonight is Troy Night Out. Shops and galleries around the Collar City are open late with music, art and performances. There are Kids Night Out activities at The Arts Center for the Capital Region and an Easter egg hunt. Pioneer Market is hosing an after hours wine and cheese event (8-10, $20) and the TNO Official Unofficial After Party starts at 9 at Daisy Baker's (free).

24-Hour Theatre Project
WAM and MopCo are teaming up to do five new plays -- from scratch -- in 24 hours. On Friday night, five playwrights get themes and a number of actors. Armed with only that information, they get 12 hours to write a play. Then actors, directors, designers and tech staff take over, and by Saturday night at 8 pm, they'll be ready to present five original short plays. Check out what they come up with at The Arts Center of the Capital Region on Saturday night. $15 - 8 pm

Hudson Valley Garden Show
This could help put you in the right mode for spring. HVCC is hosting its annual Garden and flower show today through Sunday. $10. Kids under 15 are free.

Film
+ The Writers Institute is screening John Patrick Shanley's film Doubt tonight at UAlbany's Page Hall. free - 7:30 pm

+ Proctors is screening the roller derby documentaryBrutal Beauty, about Oregon's Rose City Rollers, today at 4:30 pm and 7 pm. The executive producer and director of the doc will do a Skype Q&A following the 7 pm performance. $6

Grown-up circus
The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus performs an adult night of cirkus tonight at Helsinki Hudson (21+). $15 - 9 pm

Stoked at Omi
90 artists have featured their artwork on skate board decks for Stoked, a silent auction at Art Omi this weekend. The auction benefits the construction of the Chatham Skate Park, but the art itself could be kind of cool to see. Music by Ben & Jordan and a dance party with DJ OFI. $5 suggested donation. Doors open at 2 pm. Bidding ends at 8 pm. Music, refreshments, dancing until 9 pm.

Music

+ Pianist Christopher O'Riley is playing Skidmore's Zankel Center tonight. He performs both classical pieces -- and interpretations of pop music such as Radiohead and Nirvana. He's also the host of NPR's From the Top. $12 - 8 pm

+ Fusion guitarist Al DiMeola plays his mix of jazz, blues and rock tonight at The Egg. $39.50 - 8 pm.

+ Welsh indie "shoegaze-grunge hybrid" band The Joy Formidable is at Valentine's Saturday night. They sound like the 90s. Here are a bunch of tracks. With The Lonely Forest, Mona, Around the World and Back. 7 pm - $10 ahead / $12 day of

+ The Felice Brothers play Helsinki Hudson on Saturday night. $18 - 9 pm

+ Saturday at Putnam Den: Prima, with Pillowhead and The Red Lions. $7 - 9 pm

+ CBS6's Jerry Gretzinger will be performing his homage to Frank Sinatra at The Linda Saturday night. He'll be backed up by the Swing Docs. We hear they also cover a Kermit the Frog song. $23 - 8 pm

+ The Wailin' Jennys are at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Saturday night. $15-$35 - 8 pm

+ The Grammy Award-winning Ying Quartet will play at the Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College on Saturday night, as part of Skidmore's three day chamber music festival. $5 students / $12 general admission - 8 pm

+ And from our WTF folder: on Saturday night at MASS MoCA, you can catch, Tragedy: The All Metal Tribute to The Bee Gees. $10 students, $12 in advance, $16 at the door - 8 pm

The Dog Whisperer
Cesar Millan comes to the Palace Theater on Sunday night. If you use the code "ANIMAL" when buying tickets, 20 percent of the proceeds will go to the Animal Protective Foundation in Scotia. tickets start at $35.75 - 7 pm

Graham Parker: The Confidence Man
This collection of film and video work made by NYC artist Graham Parker while he was in residence at EMPAC examines deception or "the concealing of one set of operations behind the appearance of another" -- from spam to hacked ATM machines. Free. Noon-6 pm Friday and Saturday. (If you miss it this weekend, you can see it through April 30.)

A Little Nightmare Music
Igudesman and Joo are not easy to explain, sohave a look for yourself. They're a little music, a little comedy, a little performance art. They're a bit like Victor Borge or P.D.Q. Bach. And they'll be at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Sunday afternoon. $15-$30 - 3 pm

Theater
+ Musical of Musicals (The Musical), a spoof/homage to musical theater and its greatest composers, closes this weekend at Schenectady Civic Theater. The show has been getting great reviews. The cast includes Molly Rose McGrath, and it's worth the price of admission just to hear her sing. 8 pm tonight and Saturday, 2:30 Sunday - $18

+ Crowns continues at Capital Rep. With gospel and hip hop, the show explores history and identity. Tonight at 8, Saturday at 3 & 7:30, Sunday at 2:30. On Sunday there's a pre-show discussion with artistic director Maggie Mancinelli Cahill at 1:30. $16-$56.

+ Saturday night at Proctors Tova Feldshuh stars as Gold Meir in Golda's Balcony. The one woman show follows Meir's life "from the pogroms of Russia to the halls of the Knesset." $20-75 - 8 pm

Brunch
Linger over a boozy brunch with friends or start your weekend with a great diner breakfast.

Ice Cream
Kurver, The Snowman and other seasonal ice cream stands are open -- so go get your first taste of spring.

- Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dream performs at the 8th Step.

For Book Lovers, two signings at area stores this Saturday: Jeanne Winston Adler signs copies of THE AFFAIR OF THE VEILED MURDERESS at Market Block Books from 11-1pm, and the TU's Bill Danielson signs copies of STILL SPEAKING OF NATURE at the Book House from 3-5pm.

Doubt is a GREAT movie, and Page Hall is a really cool space. I highly recommend this if you don't have other plans. (I do, or I would probably be over there myself.)
