It's Ferris wheel time.

Here are a few things to keep in mind, look ahead to, or keep busy with this week -- from the weather (uh, well...), to the fair, to Jets and Sharks, to Rent, to all sorts of music...

Weather

Here's the paraphrased forecast:

Monday: Rainy. Highs in the mid-70s.
Tuesday: Some rain. A little warmer.
Wednesday: Same.
Thursday: Sunny and 80.
Friday: Cloudy with some rain. Highs in the mid-70s.
Weekend: Cloudy to start... maybe sunny by the end.

Come on August, don't let us down.

Altamont Fair

The big Altamont Fair -- the county fair for Albany, Schenectady, and Greene counties -- opens Tuesday and runs through Sunday. All the usual stuff is there: rides, music, fair food, animals, exhibits and various whatnot. Tickets are $15, which includes admission, parking, and unlimited rides.

Jets and Sharks

The touring production of West Side Story is at Proctors this week, starting Tuesday and running through Sunday. It's a classic show -- written by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim (and the original 1957 production was choreographed by Jerome Robbins). Tickets start at $20.

Food Fest

The Empire State Plaza Food Festival is Wednesday. More than 50 food vendors will be serving for lunch and dinner. There will also be music, including headliner... Eddie Money. 11 am - 9 pm

Theater

Rent
The impressive local production of Rent finishes its run at Schenectady Light Opera, with shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday. $18 and up

Williamstown
Ten Cents a Dance, a new musical featuring songs from Rodgers and Hart, continues at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Opening Tuesday: You Better Sit Down: tales from my parents' divorce, "an alternately heartbreaking and hilarious look" at divorce, based on interviews from the cast and their own parents.

Berkshire Theatre Festival
The BTF has Finian's Rainbow, a production of the festival's "pre-professional" company, and Tennessee Williams' Period of Adjustment this week.

Mac-Haydn
The Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham opens its production of Carousel, Thursday-Sunday.

Shakespeare and Company
Shakespeare and Company in Lenox continues its schedule of Shakespeare (including As You Like It) and non-Shakespeare (including Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins).

Universal Preservation Hall
Wine Lovers: The Wine Tasting Musical continues at UPH through Sunday. $59

Music

Wednesday: The B-Street Band at Rockin' on the River in Troy
It's a Bruce Springsteen cover band. 5 pm - free

Thursday: Severe Severe at Valentine's
It's a Swordpaw show that also includes Why the Wires, Cosmonauts, and The City Never Sleeps. 7 pm - $7

Thursday: Adrenaline Mob at Northern Lights
A recently-formed metal "supergroup." Expect much shredding. 7:30 pm - $12 ahead / $15 day of

Friday: OUTPOST1 at Fuze Box
Joe Nice, Deep Children, Party with Tina, Dwell. 10 pm - $5

Friday: Pillowhead at Valentine's
With The 7th Squeeze, The Middle Eight. 9 pm

Friday: Dub is a Weapon at Helsinki Hudson
Reggae, man. 9 pm - $15

Friday: Secret Release, Bellflower, Benjamin McGrath at Hudson River Coffee House
8 pm

Saturday: Film Night at Tanglewood
John Williams conducting, Morgan Freeman narrating. 8:30 pm - $21 and up

Saturday: Chris Smither at Helsinki Hudson
Folk, poetry, the blues. 9 pm - $25

Saturday: Rustic Overtones at Putnam Den
9 pm - $10

Saturday: Mary Fahl at Caffe Lena
With Gregory Douglas. 8 pm - $18 ahead / $20 at the door

The Kings of Leon/Band of Horses show scheduled for Saturday at SPAC was canceled.
