One fountain... will choose to be extraordinary

Update: Here's a UAlbany press release about the new fountain design. The firm behind it includes the son of Edward Durrell Stone, the campus' original architect.

Also: that video above will be taken offline on December 12. Another version, which will stay online, is now embedded after the jump.

Check out this awesomely overdramatic video of the proposed concept for the renovation of the main fountain on UAlbany's uptown campus. The music! The heroic sweep!

The only thing missing from the video is movie trailer voice over guy:

"In a world... where fountains only spray water... one fountain had the courage... to light up and spray water..."

And the Sexy Weatherman would be just the guy to have do the voice over, right? :)

@komradebob: I think he'd have to star in the movie. Call it a sequel -- Fountain Day 2: The Fountain Strikes Back.

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! I wish ualbany was this cool when I was there.

Now I have to pee

The extended version includes an appearance by Capt. Jack Sparrow, but it was cut for time.

And why aren't the people in the winter scene wearing coats, when it's snowing? You'll catch a cold, tiny sim-people!

I shared this with a coworker and he said, "Michael Bay will do anything for a buck, huh?"

:)

This is AWESOME. My toddler and I enjoyed it greatly. I agree about the sim people not wearing coats...although they are college students, and where I went to college, kids walked around in shorts and flip flops when it snowed, so it could be worse.

They stole the music from Epic Meal Time hahahaha.

They are turning the fountain into a Disco? John Trivolta should make an appearance at fountain day in the three piece suite and a guest appearance by the Beegeeies.

wait, it snows at the bellagio?

Well, it certainly seems epic. I can't wait to see all the coolness, but... I think my iPod Touch renders fancier graphics than are in that video... but still, that' was an EPIC score/accompaniment/whatever. :) (also, I'm pretty sure Michael Bay WILL do pretty much anything for a buck[Transformers 27: The Bark of the Puppy, anyone?])

U-S-A! U-S-A!

It looks exactly like the cut-away scenes they play in CIV 4 when you build a world wonder. Somebody is dreaming...

Best fountain trailer ever! I can't wait until the full-length version is released in... well, two years after whenever SUNY says the fountain will be completed.

P.S. Is it just me, or does anyone else find the spraying fountain/clock tower image around :40 kind of... how can I put this delicately... wildly phallic?

What we need for the trailer is an antagonist. How about a few spies from RPI trying to steal the blueprints for the ULTIMATE FOUNTAIN!!!

This totally justifies cutting all those programs.

Looks like a disco nightmare.

I agree Lwoodbluz... every hero needs a villain. Also, I think the entire campus has a certain... tenor to it Siobhan... What with those towers and such. and all those vertical pillars. It's a real stand up place! ... :)

That was anti-climatic! With all that exciting music I thought it would explode at the end and there, written in the flames would be "Coming Fountain Day 2013!"

Is that a joke? In times like these, this is where money is being spent? Shame and disgust.

So the language programs, theater program, and God knows what other program(s) have all been cut or dramatically downsized so that Leni Riefenstahl could make a propaganda film from the grave?

I suppose it goes well with the neo-Fascist architecture of the uptown campus...

UAlbany: Come for downsized academic programs, stay for the fountain.
