Yogurt as economic development

chobani in refrigerator thumbnailA few interesting details in NYT's take on the "Upstate New York is Greek yogurt country" story line -- an official from the state's economic development arm calls yogurt "a huge multiplier" because it all the steps involved with producing the product (feed, cows, processing), most of which are done upstate. Also: the Chobani plant expansion planned for outside Oneonta would allow the company to produce 176,000 tons of yogurt per year there. Earlier: Upstate is yogurt country

Chobani yogurt comes from the God's: it's good for you, tastes great, fills you up, and is made in CNY. If you're into Greek yogurt but buying it from some national food brand, you're both missing out and hurting your neighbors. 2 cups of Chobani makes for an awesome breakfast.
