Miss Albany in NYT

The Miss Albany Diner gets another farewell, this time in the New York Times (for a while last night the article was the featured story on the NYT website's front page). The article includes a cameo by Akum right at the top. Today is the last day for the Miss Albany. Earlier: Miss Albany Diner building sold to Matt Baumgartner and partners

Wish someone who is a great chef would buy it, and move it to Wolf Road, Western Ave, New Scotland Ave.

I wouldn't mind seeing it moved, but it has to stay a DINER- not a bistro in a diner suit like Quintessence.

I'm sad I'll never experience the awesome-sounding Mad Irish Toast now that MAD has closed. I'm sure in a few months we'll have a diner-themed bar in it's place, complete with an approximation of Mad Irish Toast that I can be sure to avoid.

Knock down the old Friendly's on New Scotland. Drop diner there. Done.

Augh, I mean Delaware,/i>, of course. More caffeine, please.

Just glad I got to enjoy it twice in the short time I've lived in Albany! By far the best breakfast I've had here... on to searching for the next best thing. Any suggestions for where I should go?

Brian, Cafe Madison is good if a bit overrated, and Cafe 217 is solid too. Brunch at New World Bistro can't go wrong. I can't think of anywhere that has quite the same mix as Miss Albany's menu, though.

Everyone, please excuse my comments above, I'm properly caffeinated now. On further thinking, since the Browns have rights to the recipes, the diner would make a great creperie.

The diner would NOT make a great creperie. That is for Stuyvesant Plaza- they used to have a good one. The Miss Albany (or what ever name it will have) is a place for hot turkey sandwiches, meat loaf, gravy fries and breakfast all day. We don't need more boutique food.

Only in Albany would a crepe, the cousin of pancakes and enchiladas, be considered a "boutique" food. God knows there aren't enough places in town to eat turkey sandwiches or breakfast food.

Well said, Sarah. Enough with the turkey sandwiches. With "Chez Daisie" in Schenectady closed, the only way to get good crepes is drive to "Ravenous" in Saratoga or "Chez Gamin" in Hudson (which makes for a good trip anyway). Ravenous has fantastic fries too. Fries + crepes. Make it so.

Put it on wheels and make it a traveling diner!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
