The plan for the Miss Albany building

sciortinos neon signMatt Baugartner posted today the plan for the Miss Albany Diner building -- an Italian restaurant called Sciortino's:

Sciortino's is going to be a casual, Italian restaurant featuring some of my grandparent's recipes, and other delicious stuff like meatballs, pizza and pitchers of beer (!!!).

That's the sign for the new restaurant on the right.

The place is named after his grandparents. Sadly, his grandfather passed away Sunday:

I'm gonna miss him very much. He was the best grandfather I ever could have wished for. I'm happy that his last name will live on in a restaurant that I hope he would have been proud of.

Matt and business partners Jimmy and Demetra Vann bought the Miss Albany building -- but not the name or recipes -- in February. As you well know, the group also owns Wolff's, which is just next door.

I do hope that a local diner purchases the recipes.

No. No. No. This is barely better than having it rot empty, but Albany does NOT need another Italian restaurant. Not at all.

An other Iralian place? What a disappointment. I was hoping that if he wasn't going to keep it as a diner, he'd at least do something interesting with the place.

I don't quite get it. Is this a meant to be a sobering up joint after a birthday boot at Wolff's? Italian-American place with pitchers of beer? Italian beer is godawful. That said, Baugartner's got the magic touch, so I wouldn't bet against it.

Drunk people love Pizza. It will do well.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
