Warm weather bang for your airfare buck 2013

united airplane landing at ALB

Next stop: some place warm?

For no reason at all, we were scanning flights to warm weather locations today. And, as we have before, we figured it'd be fun to see where we could get the most degrees for our airfare dollar.

Now boarding...

How we figured this

+ The date of the "trip" is February 20-27.

+ Airfare is round trip. We pulled the prices from Kayak and Southwest, and just picked the cheapest fare available. Normal high temperatures are from Weather Underground's travel planner.

+ We calculated dollars per degree by simply dividing the airfare by the temperatures.

+ This is mostly just a goofy way of looking at all this. You can probably find cheaper fares -- and make better travel decisions -- by researching more. And, of course, your mileage will almost certainly vary.

So...

Florida again fared well (that one will never get old...). And, as when we checked a few years ago, Tampa again topped the chart for the most degrees per dollar.

But for max warmth at less-than-max price, Puerto Rico and Cancun both look like pretty good options.

Yeah real goofy, since there is no explanation why ft. lauderdale is not on the list.
