Learning curve

The problem with a complicated new machine -- it's a complicated new machine. The Times Union says delivery of the paper version was delayed today, and many customers would be receiving the paper in two separate deliveries. TU editor Rex Smith tells the Daily Gazette the production problems were part of the learning curve of using the paper's new press. (Thanks, Chris) Update: Here's a TU story about the problem. Earlier: Start the presses.

"ALBANY — Times Union subscribers may have to resort to the newspaper’s website today to get their news."

I thought for a second that i had been redirected to The Onion.

Thankfully, the Times Union still had their backup printing press for just such an emergency.

That included an "electrical problem," followed by three instances where the web - the continuous sheet of newsprint that is fed into the process - broke and had to be taken out and restarted." (TU)

So, to properly access the web of continuous newsprint, they had to re-boot the press.
