They're just not that into us

People, it's time to admit the cold reality of the situation: Wegmans just loves Boston more than Albany. Boston's mayor announced today that the chain is planning another store there, in the Fenway neighborhood -- it will be its fourth store in the greater Boston area. It's OK if you need take a minute. Rejection can be hard. [Boston Globe] (Thanks, Paul) Earlier: Wegmans? Really? Please explain.

Shrug. Still haven't been to Trader Joe's.

Give it up. Wegman's is not going to come into Price Chopper territory. The two chains are either in a cold war-type stand off or are downright colluding to stay out of each other's territory. It is all game theory.

i heard (many years ago) that pc and wegman's had a 'handshake" not to compete. maybe true?

I do consulting work for Wegmans. Albany should accept they're not coming here because:

1. The handshake deal with the Golub family is real
2. The demographics "aren't here" per one of their Directors
3. Their expansion plans are in MA, NJ, PA, and VA

I wish they would for the Market Cafe alone. Alas, we're doomed to general blandness.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
