SPECIAL SCREENING ON THURSDAY, APRIL 11TH FOR NEW MOVIE
THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES IN ITS FILMING LOCATION, SCHENECTADY;
DIRECTOR DEREK CIANFRANCE TO ATTEND WITH SELECT CAST, CREW

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK, March 28th, 2013 - In celebration of Schenectady, New York, which is the setting for and was the shooting location of director Derek Cianfrance's new movie The Place Beyond the Pines, Focus Features will hold a special screening of the film in the town on Thursday, April 11th. Mr. Cianfrance, as well as select cast and crew members from the film, will be in attendance at the screening, which will be held at Bow Tie Cinemas' Movieland 6 theaters.

Following exclusive engagements in New York City and Los Angeles beginning March 29th, Focus opens The Place Beyond the Pines in select cities on April 5th and expands the release to theaters across the country on April 12th, including the Movieland 6 in Schenectady. MPAA-rated "R," The Place Beyond the Pines is the daring new movie from the director of Blue Valentine, a sweeping emotional drama powerfully exploring the unbreakable bond between fathers and sons. In the film, Luke (Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling) is a high-wire motorcycle stunt performer who travels with the carnival from town to town. While passing through Schenectady in upstate New York, he tries to reconnect with a former lover, Romina (Eva Mendes), only to learn that she has given birth to their son Jason in his absence. Luke decides to give up life on the road to try and provide for his newfound family by taking a job as a car mechanic. Noticing Luke's ambition and talents, his employer Robin (Ben Mendelsohn) proposes to partner with Luke in a string of spectacular bank robberies - which will place Luke on the radar of ambitious rookie cop Avery Cross (Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper). Avery is also struggling to balance his professional life with his family life, which includes his wife Jennifer (Rose Byrne) and their infant son AJ. The consequences of Avery's confrontation with Luke will reverberate into the next generation. It is then that the two sons, Jason (Dane DeHaan) and AJ (Emory Cohen), must face their fateful, shared legacy.

The film was shot on location in Schenectady at, among other locales, the Schenectady Police Department; Schenectady City Hall; First National Bank of Scotia; Trustco Bank; Ellis Hospital; the Route 7 Diner; Schenectady High School; and the Altamont Fair.

"Bringing The Place Beyond the Pines back to Schenectady to show it to the town that truly helped make it is both humbling and exciting," Mr. Cianfrance said. "Schenectady is an amazing and inspiring community, and everyone on the production - especially those of us with family in the town - is so grateful that we had the opportunity to shoot there."

Also starring Mahershala Ali and Ray Liotta, the Focus Features and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment presentation of an Electric City Entertainment production in association with Verisimilitude is scripted by Mr. Cianfrance, Ben Coccio, and Darius Marder, from a story by Mr. Cianfrance and Mr. Coccio.
