In addition to the Tulip Festival, there are lots of things going on in the Capital Region this Mother's Day weekend. You'll find a few things we thought might be interesting after the jump.

Tulips
It's Tulip Festival weekend in Albany, with events Friday through Sunday in and around Washington Park. Here's the music lineup -- the headliner on the national stage Saturday is Sliversun Pickups (around 4 pm).
Waterford/RiverSpark Canal Fest
The Tulip Festival isn't the only festival in the Capital Region this weekend. Saturday is CanalFest in Waterford. They'll have music, performers, carnival rides, crafters and more. 9:30a.m. to 6p.m. Free admission.
Theater
Sunday in the Park with George
Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George -- a fictional tale of artist George Seurat and the people in his famous pointillist painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of La Grande Jatte -- continues this weekend at Schenectady Civic Players. It stars Molly Rose McGrath as Dot and Matthew Moross as George Seurat. Friday at 8 pm, Saturday at 8 pm, Sunday at 2 pm
Red
Capital Rep's production of Red continues this week. (TU Review, Troy Record review.)
Of Mice and Men
The Local Actors Guild opens a production of Of Mice and Men, the show based on the John Steinbeck novel, this weekend at the Saratoga Arts Center. Saturday at 2p.m. and 8p.m., Sunday at 2p.m. $15
Sweet Charity
Schenectady Light Opera's production of Sweet Charity, Neil Simon and Cy Coleman's classic musical opens this weekend. Friday and Saturday at 8p.m., Sunday at 2p.m., $18 & $22.
The Oldest Profession
Albany Civic's production of The Oldest Profession continues this weekend. The author of How I Learned to Drive wrote this play about the lives of five aging prostitutes in the early 1980s. Friday and Saturday at 7:30p.m., Sunday at 3p.m. $15
Comedy
MopCo: You Never Know
The Mop & Bucket Company's "You Never Know" show is back. Think Whose Line is it Anyway -- a night of short form improv games where talented improvisers make up scenes and songs based on audience suggestions. Underground at Proctors. Friday at 8 pm - $14 adults, $6 students and seniors.
Improv at The Comedy Works
Mop & Bucket's weekly short form improv comedy show is back on Saturday night at The Comedy Works on Northern Blvd in Albany. Think Whose Line is it Anyway. 8 pm - $15-$20
The Nature of Design
A new exhibit -- "Russel Wright: The Nature of Design," about the work of industrial designer Russel Wright -- is now open at the State Museum. Blurbage:
The exhibit includes objects such as wood serving bowls and spun aluminum trays designed Pre-World War II as well as Wright's more experimental and innovative Post-World War II designs, including earthenware plates, bowls, pitchers, and vases.
Among Wright's designs: the extraordinarily popular American Modern line of dinner ware. The exhibit runs through the end of the year.
Film
The Third Man, outside
Friday: EMPAC is showing the classic 1949 noir The Third Man outside on the Evelyn's Cafe terrace. 8 pm - free
Thirst
Saturday: The State Museum will be screening Thirst, a locally-produced short film about two Union soldiers from New York and their attempt to take a well being guarded by Confederate troops. A Q&A will follow the screening. 1 pm, Huxley Theater - free
Rear Window
The Ballston Spa Film Festival's monthly classic series continues on Saturday with two showings of Alfred Hitchcock's classic, Rear Window at Ballston Spa High School. Saturday at 2p.m. and 6:45 p.m. - free.

It's going to get worse and worse and worse my friend
EMPAC wraps up its spring season on Friday with a contemporary dance performance based on -- a Jimmy Swaggart speech. It's going to get worse and worse and worse my friend examines "direct meanings of words and phrases and more with the violence that can lie in the rhetorical strategies of someone in a trance-like state." Here's the trailer. Friday at 8p.m., $18.
Horses
Saratoga's 54th Annual Horse Show is continues this weekend. Hunters, jumpers and equestrian classes. It's at the Yaddo showgrounds at the Saratoga Race Course. Saturday and Sunday 8 am-5 pm - spectators $3
Migratory Bird Day
The head ornithologist at the NYS museum will be part of a full day family program on migratory birds at the Albany Pine Bush on Saturday. International Migratory Bird Day includes a morning bird walk, a migratory challenge where kids make their way through stations to understand the challenges faced by migratory birds and a talk by ornithologist Dr. Jeremy Kirchman. Saturday 8-10 am bird walk, 11 am talk - free
Outdoor Farmers' Markets
Farmers' markets in the Capital Region are outdoors for the season.
Mothers' Day
It's Sunday. Hang out with Mom. If you don't have brunch or dinner reservations yet, you might want to start planning a trip to the grocery store to make her something good.

If you have kids and are looking for some free entertainment (or a new daycare), the newest location of Maple Leaf Daycare is holding an open house on Saturday from 10-2. (They are right next to the Publik House on Rt 9 in Malta.)

Tomorrow is National Train Day. The cool rail cars passed through last night, unfortunately (and, ironically, while I was stuck on a train). But there will still be some exhibitors at the rail station:
