Park projects

The Cuomo admin announced a bunch of funding today for state parks projects -- a little more than $11 million around the Capital Region. Some of the items sound like the possible (very) beginning of interesting projects, among them: preparing vacant wings of the Lincoln Baths in Spa State Park for adaptive reuse, and stabilizing the Bleachery Building at Peebles Island for the same. Also: $150k for "viewshed and site restoration" at Thacher Park -- that's trimming back the trees, right?

How about opening up the pool at Thacher Park.
Putting a pool in at Washington Park.
Putting a restaurant in the lakehouse there.
Turning Scharoon Manor back into the resort it was in it's "Marjorie Morning Star" heydays!
My sister tried out for an extra part in that movie.
She got to meet Natalie Wood, Robert Wagner, Ed Wynn, and Jean Kelly.!
Oh, those glorious Schroon Lake days!

I think the Governor's office has finally learned that New Yorkers love their public parks after that debacle several years ago when it proposed to close down or gut the services at many of them (under Paterson, I believe). This is an interesting range of projects across the state. I spent many happy summer days at Jones Beach and so I'm intrigued by the project to rehabilitate the historic mosaics there.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
