The Cambridge Hotel's next life

Well, at least "pie a la mode" was first NAMED there, or so the legend goes (I assume others were eating apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream before the moniker). It's a bummer that the building will no longer be used as a hotel. Maybe the seniors living there will be nice enough to invite us in for a pie a la mode on National Pie Day (Jan. 23). As far as the legend goes... it's said that a New York Sun reporter wrote up the story, but the date -- not even the decade -- are ever given. I really hope they digitize the Sun at some point. I'd love to solidify the story. (And I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be my great-grandfather who wrote that piece, since he grew up in neighboring Salem NY and went on to write for The SUN in 1900).
