A follow-up bit on the oil rail shipment issue
The Cuomo admin announced today that it's "directing several State agencies to do a top-to-bottom review of safety procedures and emergency response preparedness" related to crude oil shipments from North Dakota's Bakken oil fields. And it's sent a letter to the feds urging more stringent safety standards for the shipments. Freight rail regulation is a federal matter, so a lot of this is the state waving its hands trying to prompt action in the feds.
