Tulip power rankings
Tulip season is very much underway in the flowers beds of Albany's Washington Park. There are still several varieties yet to bloom, but there were plenty of tulips to gawk at Wednesday afternoon.
So who's out to the early lead in this ultra-competitive floral venue? Which blooms are lowering the boom on the competition?
Let's go to the early season power rankings...
5. Morris Gudanov
Red? Yellow? Orange? Yes. This tulip has the element of surprise in its favor.
4. Mystic Van Eijk
Classic and classy. A tulip always looks good in pink.
3. Abu Hassan
Mesmerizes the competition with its velvety crimson and sharp gradient at the edge of its petals.
2. Fire Queen
You can't handle this bloom -- too hot!
1. American Dream
A tulip so brilliant, it glows. You can't stop this tulip, you can only hope you don't get planted next to it.

Ahem. In all seriousness (ok, some seriousness), the tulips in Washington Park are blooming nicely and it looks like they'll be in great shape for this coming weekend. If you'd like to check them out, it's not a bad idea to try to catch the before Tulip Fest, say this Thursday or Friday, when the crowds are smaller.

My favorite is Banja Luka tulip; it's yellow with orange flame marks.
I have about 200 tulips of different varieties in my garden but it never seems enough!
